01 Ultrasonic diffusers
The benefits of essential oils spread in the environment are now known and there are several ways to spread them, but not everyone knows the differences and the pros and cons of these methods.
The most common are certainly the flame essence burner and the ultrasonic aromatherapy diffuser.
The essence burners are certainly the first to have been used for this purpose; the essential oils are poured into the water which is heated by a candle placed inside the diffuser. In this way the essential oils evaporate together with the water and diffuse into the surrounding environment. This type of speaker has the advantage of being very cheap and easily available and you can find them in all colors and shapes. On the other hand, however, there is the fact that heating essential oils risks altering their composition and therefore losing their many beneficial properties. Furthermore, the possible risks of leaving a burning flame in your home unattended should not be underestimated. The newest method for the diffusion of essential oils is undoubtedly the ultrasonic diffuser. Unlike the essence burners, with these machines the diffusion takes place cold. In fact, thanks to the innovative ultrasound technology, water and essential oil are crumbled into micro particles that are diffused into the environment. In this way the essential oil is not heated and therefore retains all its natural properties and benefits. Moreover, thanks to the immediate vaporization of the water, these diffusers also allow an instant micro humidification of the air. Another strong point of ultrasound diffusers is the presence of colored LEDs, which blend aromatherapy with chromotherapy; the latter is an ancient alternative medicine according to which each color can affect a person's physical and mental well-being.
The range of Gisa Wellness ultrasonic diffusers is very wide and gives the possibility to choose between different price ranges, sizes or materials. Furthermore, our products range from the most basic to the most technological speakers, with innovative functions such as the music therapy function or the integrated rechargeable battery.
02 What are essential oils?
Essential oil is a substance extracted from plants, it can be extracted from different parts of the plant such as leaves, flowers, bark, peel, etc. When we talk about essential oils we refer to the substance that has the property of determining the perfume of the same. When we rub the fresh leaves of a plant or peel an orange, the liquid substance that is released is precisely the essential oil. The same plants, grown in different habitats and conditions, can produce essential oils with completely different characteristics; there are varieties of the same species that have different characteristics in the composition of essential oils: this botanical "profile" is defined as chemotype. Although the starting plant is the same, each chemotype has different uses and benefits.
The techniques of extraction of essential oils:
- Cold pressing: through this extraction technique the Essences are obtained. It is a mechanical process which consists in cold pressing plant parts in order to extract the active ingredients. It is applied for the extraction of citrus essences by pressing the peel of the fruit.
- Steam distillation: steam distillation extracts essential oils from the most resistant and dry plant tissues such as leaves, twigs, bark and wood. Steam distillation is applied with the use of a still, a watertight device connected to a steam generator and a cooling coil. The distiller, thanks to the cooling coil, manages to separate the o.e. from the remaining liquid.
- Enfleurage and solvent extraction: these techniques are used only in special cases to increase the yield or to avoid damaging extremely delicate parts of the plant. The essential oil of neroli is obtained with the enfleurage of the flowers, while the essential oil of orange is obtained with the steam distillation of twigs, leaves and bark. The quality of an essential oil depends on the quality of the plants used and the abilities of the distiller. A partial yardstick, but which can give us a first indication, is the quality of the labeling.
Complete and professional labeling should include:
- Botanical name (and common name)
- Chemotype
- Part of the plant used
- Place of collection
- Extraction method
- Expiry date
- Cautions (internal use, children, pregnancy, etc.)
Essential oils have existed since the dawn of time. The first essential oil used in the world was that of rose; extracted by the famous Arab doctor Avicenna in 4000 BC. C. Even the Ancient Egyptians, at the dawn of the predynastic period, used essential oils to embalm the dead. But it is the chemist René-Maurice Gattefossé who holds the title of father of modern aromatherapy; in 1910, while working on the production of some perfumes, he accidentally burned his arm; casually finding lavender near him, he tried to put it on the injured part: he felt immediate relief and prevented his limb from gangrene!
03 The use of essential oils
Aromatic use
The sense of smell is a tool capable of triggering physiological, mental and emotional reactions. The receptors in the nose are connected to the limbic system directly by the olfactory nerve; this system is responsible for memory and emotions: for this reason some smells bring to mind places or people, some relax us while others give us the charge.
Some examples of applications of essential oils can be:
- Diffusion through ultrasonic diffuser.
- Inhalations (breathe from a handkerchief with a few drops of EO).
- Suffumigi.
Topical use
Topical use is another very effective method of using essential oils, because they absorb quickly and remain in the area of application, giving a localized benefit. Using carrier oils and a light massage increases the absorption of oils in the epidermis. Essential oils should never be used pure on the skin, as they could be irritating, so a carrier oil or neutral cream should always be used for this type of application. Contact with certain parts of the body such as eyes, ears, mucous membranes or irritated or broken skin should be avoided.
Some examples of applications of essential oils can be:
- Add a few drops of oil to the hot bath.
- Prepare hot and cold compresses, wetting a cloth with hot or cold water, adding essential oils and applying to the desired area.
- Add essential oil to a cream or lition and apply to the skin.
Internal use
The essential oils used internally have many qualities: they can be used to flavor foods and drinks, but they can also be used for a more targeted action given the many natural benefits. It is very important to remember that essential oils are concentrated, so you should never overdo the quantities used. The important thing is to always follow the dosage recommendations for internal use, i.e. 1 drop per 100gr / ml of food or drink.
Some examples of applications of essential oils can be:
- Using essential oils for cooking, substituting herbs or spices.
- Use essential oils to flavor water, herbal teas or other drinks.
- Take a drop of essential oil on a sugar cube or a teaspoon of honey.

Is the ultrasonic diffuser safe for pets?
Gisa Wellness ultrasound diffusers are safe for animals.
However, it is advisable to leave the pet the possibility to change rooms in case the essential oil inserted in the diffuser causes discomfort.
How should I clean the diffuser? How often?
To ensure the correct functioning of the diffuser, it is recommended to clean it at least once a week or whenever the type of essential oil used is changed.
Cleaning is very simple: just empty the remaining water from the tank, spray the universal degreaser inside and let it act for a few minutes. Once this is done, clean the ultrasound of any residue with a cotton swab or brush (if available) and rinse the tank before drying it. The diffuser will be ready to be used again.
